BIOGRAPHY
Early on in what has now become a long artistic journey, Lorin had the luck to receive guidance and technical advice from some great artist/instructors. Golden West College and later Cal State Long Beach were the local schools he attended from 1970 to 1979. In 1982, he opened his first studio in Old Town Ventura, California. These were times of experimentation and the process of his search for what to present to the viewer. After this move to the downtown area, Lorin and an artist friend opened a small gallery to showcase their art. During this early art making period, Lorin drew from the American Abstract Expressionist movement for his painting approach. Those artists changed how art was made and brought the international art scene to the U.S. The art Lorin made at the time was non-representational and in a large format. Lorin returned to Orange County in 1985 and settled in Laguna Beach. He set up a new studio in Laguna Canyon and shifted his style to the American Scene Painting style, which was greatly influenced by The Ashcan school. While working in Laguna Beach, Lorin has shown at the following galleries and showcases: Forest Ocean Gallery, Verga Gallery, The Festival Of Arts, and many private space showings. In the last two years, he has made a painting style change that blends figurative and abstract style. For Lorin, this is a very exciting time in his painting career and he thinks he’s making his best work to date.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” (Andy Warhol) Lorin tries to use what he has learned and experienced as an artist to bring something to his paintings that gives the viewer a different take on how images can relate to one another.
